How Can numbness In The Thumb And Forefinger Be Treated?

hi, my left thumb has been asleep since yesterday morning. This morning both my thumb and forefinger were numb. Tonight however just my thumb. Ive been trying to stretch my back and turn my neck different ways nothing helps. I do have arthritis in my back and a bulging disc. I know I sound like a hypocondriac but Ive also had a rotator cuff injury pulled shoulder muscles and when I move my neck it sounds like sand grateing. Would a chiropractor help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

This is suggestive of possible compressive neuropathies which are caused by nerve compression in natural bone channels. In this case chiropractor wont help so you should do electromiography and MRI scan of carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel. If I am right, you need to have steroids shots into these areas and in severe cases surgical procedure of decompression may be required. Also, you need to rest, apply cold compresses and take nonsteroid painkillers. Even cast immobilization may be recommended in some cases. Other causes are less possible and include metahbolic neuripathies, but these should be considered only if compressive neuropathies are ruled out.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
